Therapy Approach

An Integrative Path to Healing and Growth

If someone had told me years ago that emotions like joy and freedom don’t automatically emerge once the hard experiences fall away, I might have kindly thought they were mistaken.

Fast forward to today:

We now understand that the familiar “one step forward, two steps back” – sometimes described as self-sabotage, is often the mind’s best attempt to escape pain and suffering.

So how do you move beyond these patterns and create lasting change?

In my experience as a Registered Psychologist in Coquitlam, it begins with the right therapeutic connection.

Healing Through a Safe Therapeutic Relationship

Meaningful change happens within the safety of an attuned therapeutic relationship.

At the core of my approach is the psychobiological concept of co-regulation — a process where two nervous systems interact in a way that fosters emotional balance and physical well-being.

Through therapy, co-regulation:

  • Provides the safety needed to work through challenges like depression, anxiety, relationship struggles, and post-traumatic stress

  • Helps you reconnect with what’s right about you

  • Supports an embodied sense of calm, confidence, and resilience

Healing happens from the inside out — and I will be with you every step of the way.

My Counselling Style: Brain-Wise, Body-Wise Healing

In our work together, I use a brain-wise, body-informed approach to promote mind-body wellness.
This includes:

  • Teaching you how to pause and regulate heightened nervous system responses linked to stress and anxiety

  • Identifying resources to shift out of shutdown or low-motivation states common with depression

  • Helping you discover your resilient feel-good range so you can navigate life’s challenges with greater ease, energy, and emotional flexibility

Methods I Integrate in Therapy

Somatic Experiencing (SE) and Self-Regulation Therapy (SRT)

Somatic Experiencing (SE)
and Self-Regulation Therapy (SRT) are gentle, body-based methods that target the autonomic nervous system — the “motor” behind our fight, flight, freeze, or defend reactions when overwhelmed.

These approaches help:

  • Release stored trauma patterns

  • Reduce overreactivity to daily stresses (like feeling triggered by small inconveniences or remaining stuck in difficult relationships)

  • Build mindfulness of physical sensations, leading to a stable felt sense of “okayness” and calm

As your self-awareness and body awareness grow, your capacity for co-regulation — feeling emotionally connected and safe with others — naturally strengthens too.

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

I also integrate Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help identify and challenge negative thought patterns that often contribute to depression, anxiety, and relationship difficulties.

Together, we will:

  • Recognize self-defeating beliefs like “I’m not good enough” or “People can’t be trusted”

  • Reshape limiting thoughts into affirming, empowering beliefs

  • Create space for mindset-body relief and more resilient emotional responses

Beyond Therapy Techniques: Aligning Mind, Body, and Spirit

While therapeutic techniques are vital, the heart of healing is reconnecting with your deep inner knowing – your authentic, Higher Self.

Through this journey, you can create a life where mind, body, and spirit are fully aligned, vibrant, and at peace.
